Fun House Exit reveals my obsession with patterns flowing across architecture - pictured as a flickering proscenium stage-set. Although painting is where all my projects begin, I frequently find myself in the realms of architecture, theater, decor and applied arts. I respond to the observable world by personalizing the sublime geometry underlying all forms, applying pastel and hothouse hues to veneers and populating the play with eccentric swappable elements.
Michelle Weinberg creates art for surfaces, interiors, architecture and public spaces. She is the recipient of awards from Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, MacDowell Colony, Millay Colony and more. She describes her work across many platforms and mediums as vivid backdrops for human activity. Weinberg's output includes paintings on paper, hand-marbleizing, hand-bound books, the design of tiles, textiles, installations of papier maché objects, indoor and outdoor murals, mosaics, terrazzo floors and more. Her more than 65 hand bound drawing books form a library of notes and working drawings inspired by everything from digital game space to early camouflage, to hand-drawn typography, window display, fashion, curio cabinets, Warner Bros. cartoons and more.
