Lara Schnitger is a Dutch artist living and working in Los Angeles. With textile at the foundation of her practice, Schnitger explores themes of feminism and female dress in her sculptures, paintings and performances.
“A Dress Is Not A Yes” arises from Schnitger’s quilt by the same name, which has appeared in “Suffragette City,” a traveling protest-procession that Schnitger has exhibited with institutions including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; the Gorki Theater, Berlin; and Frieze Live, New York. “A Dress Is Not A Yes” refers specifically to Slut Walks and the #MeToo movement.
