I grew up swimming and have always been captivated by the stillness of being underwater. I am drawn to the interior volume of swimming pools, to the shift of the clear light blues of the shallow end to the slightly opaque blues of the deep end. This print presents an aerial view of a backyard pool. It removes the environment and isolates the pool, distilling down the architectural form to minimal shape & color.
Kristen Martincic uses swimming pools and objects associated with water to meditate on water's translucency and the act of swimming. She works with traditional print media as well as a hybrid of printmaking, drawing, painting and sculpture. Her artwork has been widely shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout the US as well as in Canada, France and Egypt.
