Corey Durbin is an artist born in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, raised in Virginia, and currently living and working in Brooklyn. He received a degree in Sculpture and Extended Media, as well as Painting/Printmaking, from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.

Corey explores the more personal and emotional aspects of the human condition. Often using sculpture, language and photography to explore the inherent duality or dishonesty within intention. Using objects of familiarity, empathy, and sentimentality, they are redirected, misinterpreted, or distorted to mimic the way our memories change over time to adapt to the emotions we want to attach to them. Inherent in this is addressing the artist's own sense of tragic self-awareness and shortcomings emotionally and communicatively.

In the series this print is taken from, photographs are translated digitally to a text-based language, made unreadable as an image. The artist then tries to alter the text to fix or adjust issues with the photograph. When the text is translated back to visual format it distorts in a way unpredictable by the artist, potentially destroying any original intent of the photo, reflecting on the artist's own inability to communicate outwardly.
