"Lone Wolf (Daddy)," 2019 is one in a recent on-going series of small drawings Hitchings has been developing which she considers to be snapshots of a larger narrative investigating social psychology and the environment. Each piece integrates language–often derogatory slang–pertinent to the artist's personal history with somewhat serene yet surreal landscapes. Positive and negative space alternate and patterns emerge which counteract the natural aspects of the space, leading to an uncanny composition of order and disorder depicting the delicate balance between human and nature.

Jen Hitchings, born 1988 in New Jersey, is a Brooklyn-based artist and curator. She received her BFA in Painting & Drawing from SUNY Purchase College in 2011, and has attended residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Studio Kura, Itoshima, Japan. Her work is represented by PROTO Gallery in Hoboken, NJ where she had a solo exhibition in 2018, and shortly after a solo exhibition at affiliated MEN Gallery in Chinatown. She has a forthcoming solo exhibition at One River School in Englewood, NJ and a two-person exhibition at Hudson Valley Community College. She has been nominated for a Rema Hort Mann Foundation grant and Joan Mitchell Emerging Artist grant, and awarded a Queens Council on the Arts grant in 2018. She is currently co-director of Transmitter gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
