Signed and numbered edition of 190 by Butt Johnson
4 color screenprint on 330gsm Plike, 2019
This print is part of a larger series of works that use images of familiar animals, plants, and man-made objects as a means to generate drawing techniques, often referencing the process of needlepoint stitching or embroidery. This image of flying ducks and cat tails was extracted from a photograph found on an internet image search, drawn with marker and then layered on with series of alternating lines in four gel pen colors. Using metallic screenprint paint, the print approximates gel pen inks. The edition was printed in a subtle set of colors on a plastic-like black Plike paper, so that the image appears in dazzling sparkles or fades gently into black depending on where the viewer stands in relation to the print.
