“Axis Mundi” is the world center, the connection between Heaven and Earth. As the celestial and geographic pole, it expresses a point of connection between sky and earth where the four compass directions meet. At this point, travel and correspondence is made between higher and lower realms. Within the central known universe a specific locale, often a mountain or other elevated place, gains status as center of the center, the Axis Mundi. Growing up in the mountains, I have long been fascinated with their sacred beauty and power. This print is based on a collage that I made which includes an arial photo from the plane flying over Utah, along with other drawn elements. I like to explore the dichotomy between the natural and manmade world in my work, and the invisible systems at play that shape the way the planet functions.
