"EP’s Studio” originated as a graphite drawing for the project Pencil in the Studio. Started in 2011, Pencil in the Studio is a project where Calandra visits with artists in their studios for a full day, talking with them about their practice and life experience, and  simultaneously drawing their space. She later writes about her time in the studio, the artwork and the artist themselves for the online journal pencilinthestudio.com. This project is a conceptual and traditional take on drawing through the use of formal technique and social media. With over 90 visits made, the project serves as a historical record of the artists of our time in NYC. It is a way of bringing the human experience to the forefront of art and art making. In this print, derived from one of the two drawings made of Erik Parker’s Studio, Calandra has added color to enhance the composition and highlight the graphic qualities of the drawing.

Maria Calandra was born in 1976 in London, England and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a BFA from Ohio University and received an MFA from Cornell University in 2006.
